The Jell-O Pudding Pop... never has such a tasty treat caused such an unexplainable mystery. Back in the early 1990s Jell-O Pudding Pops disappeared from the marketplace, denying future generations of children the pleasure of tasting these delicious frozen treats and causing irreparable harm to the millions of children (like me) who had experienced frozen pudding bliss, only to have it taken away. Now, there have been many food items that have come and gone over the course of the years and, for the most part, nobody cared. Everybody, however, loved pudding pops and as of yet, nobody has been able to solve the mystery of the disappearing Jell-O Pudding Pops.
Well, everybody can now relax and stop harassing Bill Cosby. Our decade long nightmare is over. We may never know where they've been all these years, but Jell-O Pudding Pops are back on the market...sort of. Kraft Foods has licensed the Jell-O name to the Good Humor - Breyers Ice Cream Company, who has started making Pudding Pops under their Popsicle brand division.
I said they are back...sort of, because the new Pudding Pops seem to be slightly different from the ones we all used to enjoy. As you can see in the picture to your right, appearence wise, the Pudding Pops are not the same as they were in the past. It looks like they changed the old Pudding Pop shape to conform to the standard Fudgsicle/Creamsicle/Popsicle brand shape. However, the folks over at hammradio.com say that, while the new Pops aren't exactly the same, they still taste pretty good.
Unfortunately the new Pudding Pops have yet to make their way to a store near the Nutcan HQ, so I cannot yet comment on the look or taste of them first hand. According to the locator on the Good Humor website, the closest place they are currently sold is in Janesville, WI - almost 200 miles away. Since the re-release of these frozen treats seems to be a recent development, I hope that they will be coming here soon. At that time I will be back to give you my verdict on how well the new Jell-O Pudding Pops stack up to the old.

I had the new Pudding Pops...saw them on Sunday, yelped like a little girl in excitement, and bought them. I was dissapointed when I got home to find the old shape was gone, they still taste exactly like I remember. The true test was the vanilla/chocolate swirl, and I'm happy to say that the new Jello pudding pops passed with flying colors. You won't be dissapointed.

I nicknamed my daughter puddin' pop, after the frozen treat when she was born. For 10 years or so, I've been looking for them. They have now arrived in Mississippi!!! Hope they arrived near you.

Pudding pops were on sale at Mega 10 boxes for $10. Apparently there is a new flavor, carmel.

1. I like Pudding Pops as much as the next guy, but 10 boxes!! That's a bit ridiculous.
2. I don't think I approve of carmel Pudding Pops.
3. Regardless, I think I'll be heading over to Mega sometime soon.

Well obviously no one in their right mind would get 10 boxes. I wasn't aware of the "new" kinds. I just grabbed boxes (and I noticed they looked different but didn't invest the .00001 seconds of reading the box. As it turns out all 3 boxes we got are the "new" double chocolate/carmel swirl kind. The Carmel swirl sucks and I'm less than thrilled about having 3 boxes of them.

Those were called Jell-O Gelatin Pops. They were good, but not as good as the pudding pops in my opinion. I haven't seen them in probably 15 years, so they're probably not out there anymore.

There are a ton of places around Columbus, so many it quit after 13.2 miles. Why would you need Jello Pops when you could hang with Big Butter Jesus?

seems your answer is on the box - the originals were licensed by POPSICLE
licenses run out = no more pudding pops in that shape or name
new copany, new shape, new name = no competition with popsicle- thoretically
seems popsicle got sick of paying hefty fees to jello since they had already established thier name in the marketplace- my bet is jello put popsicle in every home in america

My supermarket doesn't carry the pudding pops, however, I have discovered the packages of 6 small containers of the pudding in different flavors. Boston Cream Pie and Cinnamon Rolls are my favorite flavors...I buy the sugar free ones due to controlling sugar intake. They are sill yummy....

I've been lamenting the absence of Pudding Pops for years and JUST saw them in the local supermarket here in Boston this past weekend. After buying two boxes (for fear they would disappear again), I was (a bit) disappointed that they didn't taste like I remembered them. My husband thought I was crazy, but thanks to a prior post, I can prove to him that I'm not the only one who remembers --and liked!-- the icy coating.

My husband has been asking about these for years. We live in Houston (77098). Do you know of any place close by that sells them?

I live in the Sacramento, CA area (zip code 95662) and was happily buying Pudding Pops at Wal-Mart up until a few months ago. Suddenly they were gone from the shelf, and not even in the Wal-Mart computer system. I've asked two other grocery store chains to special order them for me and they were unable to do so. I even had an empty box that I was bringing around to these stores until Safeway freakin' lost it! I am so sad....I did find a JELL-O Pudding Pop Maker at Amazon.com but it looks pretty lame.
Who owns the rights to Jello Pudding Pops now if it's no longer Popsicle?

There is a ENORMOUS difference between a popsicle and a dessert bar! I just bought a box of the new Pudding Pops today and I thought the chocolate and chocolate swirl flavored pops were a disgrace to the original brand! For one, anyone truly from the 80's generation would NEVER FORGET how creamy Jell-o Brand Pudding bars were. You didn't just bite into a Jell-o Brand bar, the old bars were irresistable pleasure that had to be experienced with the tongue. The old bars were pure rich creamy decancy, not like the icey, skim milk flavored "pops" that Popsicle brand have the nerve to claim has a jell-o pudding flavor! How about Jello Geletine bars as well?? Does anyone remember the Geletine bars because they tasted just like a combination of Geletine and Cool-Whip. Never again will my taste buds reunite with the Jell-o brand hard shell coated bars as well!! Eating the new pops compared to the old jello bars are like comparing good to evil. It's a shame I cannot sue the people who gave the okay to "change" the Jell-o Brand recipe and WHY DID THEY CHANCE THE ORIGINAL FLAVOR of a dessert bar that I have so many fond childhood memories consuming! For anyone who has not tried the new "pop" let's just say you're not missing ANYTHING remotely close to the original BAR! Lastly for anyone who thinks the new pops are simular to the old brand, well I'm sorry but your taste buds must have retired!

I thought i was losing my mind, and then i felt very alone. As if i were the only one missing my beloved pudding pops. Maybe its because i had such a HUGE fit that they had suddenly disappeared. Whats up with the NO WARNING that this was coming???? WTF??? Well im sure any sane person would think its just hunky dory that all these people everywhere else besides OREGON can now enjoy pudding pops again. But i am anything but SANE and ill admit im green with envy, overcome by jealousy and downright f*#king pissed. Anyone know when they might appear in MY NEIGHBORHOOD???? Im goin nuts here!! More so than i already am! Thanks

This is one of the funniest threads I've ever read. I, too, covet the amazing little pop. Such wonderful memories.
Viva la pudding pop forever!

Are you guys crazy?! they are totally different...not even close. if u say they are obviously you don't remember the thin layer of ice that snapped when you buy into it, followed by the creamy chocolatey goodness known as jello as you tenth just eased right through it. The new brand are an insult to anyone that grew up with the original

Sarah - How do you use these things?

I have been looking and looking they are gone once again from their web site:
We are sorry to inform you that the Jell-o® Brand Pudding Pops® have been discontinued.

Bought some pudding pops today. Not for the same reason as most of our female readers but because I was walking down the frozen treats aisle, they beckoned and I couldn't say no. Just not the same as the ones in our days of youth though.
