ok, here are the details,
league ID: 85569
Password: page3
Draft: Monday, March 20th @ 10:00pm
Scoring type: Rotisserie...here's how this works if you don't already know. In a league of say 10 teams, if you have the most home runs, you get 10 points for that category, if you have the 2nd most, you get 9 points for that category. Each statistical category works the same way. If this isn't a popular choice and we would rather do head to head than we can change it later. But for now, this is what it's going to be.
Positions:
C, 1b, 2b, 3b, SS, OF, OF, OF, UTL, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, 5 Bench, 2 DL
Stat categories:
R, H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, W, L, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

Am I to assume that if you get pick up a player on game 181 you get his whole season's worth of stats?

No, you only get the stats he accumulates during the period he is on your team

So basically who you draft is your team forever.

matt is correct
So if Barry Bonds hits 756 home runs by August, and you decide to pick him up for the last month of the season and he only hits 2 because the league took away his steroids, you would only get credit for the homeruns he hit when he was starting on your team.

It works the exact same way as the football league we were in this year. Every homerun that is hit by a starter on your team is added to your team total. So if you have A. Rod as your shortstop and he hits 15 homeruns in the first 2 months of the season, but then gets hurt, and you are forced to start Christian Guzman, those 15 homeruns for A. Rod would be added to your team total, and now Christian Guzman's totals will start counting from the day you make him a starter.
If you drop a player, you don't lose any of his totals that have already been accumulated.
Think of it like this. The actual Twins baseball team hits 70 homeruns by the trade deadline, 18 of which are hit by Tori Hunter. If the Twins then trade Tori Hunter, they still have 70 team homeruns, but they no longer will add homeruns hit by Hunter to their total. The same thing if they trade for A Rod. If they have 70 team homeruns and A Rod hit 25 homeruns with his former team by the trade deadline, his season total won't be added to the Twins' team total, but from that point on his 15 more homeruns will be added to the Twins' season total since he is now a member of the Twins. Make sense?

Sarah's been in bed for a couple hours by then, but as of now I dont know if she's going to even be in it. I'd rather hve it a bit earlier myself, but if that time works for everyone then so be it.

You went from a time where I've been in bed for several hours to a time where I'm not even done with work. Auto pick was going to be my friend anyway.

Jon, sign up. I know you want to. You know you want to. We all know you want to. Stop lying to yourself. That's what you're doing, you know. You're living a lie. That's right. A LIE. So sign up. I'm saying this as a friend.

Jon, sign up

Scott - No, I did not change your screen saver settings

Hey, if anyone can find more people to join, feel free to spread the word. I think 8 teams should be a minimum, 10 is probably better. Currently we have 6. Tell your friends, coworkers, classmates, younger brother (JON), whoever. We got 13 days or so until the draft.

Why are we including Loses as a pitching category. I couldn't think of a stat more unrepresentative of the quality of a pitcher than loses. All it does is make good pitchers on bad hitting teams less draftable.

That is a very good point. To even things up, I eliminated Hits as an offensive category. I also changed pushed the draft back a week. I realized that I will gone for spring break this coming monday, and I also found a better time. The Draft is now Monday, March 27th at 8:00pm.

Excellent, now my plan of drafting Dontrelle Willis with the first overall pick will not be foiled by the lack of actual baseball players in the Marlin's lineup.

Why wouldnt hits count?

Micah - They just want the damn ash of that field

Generally you need to have the same amount of categories for pitchers and hitters (hence the term 4x4 or 5x5 leagues). So if you elimintate losses you would need to eliminate a hitting category. Unless you can think of a better pitching category to include, but I'm pretty anti-losses.
Also, if we don't get enough people signed up, are we considering letting randoms in or making it an AL/NL only league. Although that would be pretty hard to agree on since there seems to be a pretty even Brewers/Twins split in this page.

I think batting average is better than hits anyway.

I dont know anything about fantasy baseball (or for that matter what our scoring system is) I just thought hits would be an important stats for a batter. If batting average is in there then it's a moot point because it was more or less being double counted.

I am willing to let randoms in to get our team count up to 3. Let me know what you think.
Batting Average kind of already covers hits. And in case anyone was wondering, a 4/4 hitting night by one player is still better than a 1/1 hitting night, despite the fact that both players batted 1.000. The category is calculated by dividing total hits by total at bats, not by "averaging out the averages". I not sure if anyone had any doubts about this, but I thought I would clear it up.

What's this "randoms" thing you guys are talking about?

if we want more people to join the league, but we don't know of anyone else to ask, I can open up the league to let anyone on yahoo join. There are only 3 spots left for managers, but if we want 10 teams, I might think about doing that.

That's what I assumed but the way you said "I am willing to let randoms in to get our team count up to 3." I thought it was something wierd, seeing as we have more than 3 teams.

has anyone ran into the problem of adding someone to the DL, then attempting to pick up a player but still being forced to drop a player? Having a player on the DL means that that particular player doesn't count as part of your roster for the duration that you keep him on the DL. I ran into this problem this morning. If anyone else is, I will try to contact Yahoo and get it fixed.
