Stop calling me dude!!!
Wow, this cop snapped. Who knows what happened directly before the camera started rolling, but holy crap. It's kinda of funny when you watch it. The funnier thing is that this cop is probably getting fired. I liked it at the end when the cop realizes that he's being taped.View External Link [www.youtube.com]

aaaaaaaand fired.

Alex - I don't need to get steady I know just how I feel

The physical part was over the top, otherwise I wouldn't really have an issue with it.

I think the guy was mad at the clothes his department was making him wear.

Scott - You're going to have to call your hardware guy. It's not a software issue.

"Is that camera on? I better not find myself on....click" Priceless.

Jeremy - I believe virtually everything I read.

Actually you can hear him just barely start to say "youtube."
Also, I pity for Alex's childhood if he doesn't have a problem beyond the physical assault. Saying "dude" and "I didn't do anything" when you didn't do anything doesn't qualify as backtalk.
Everything this officer did from the second word out of his mouth would be 10 steps over the line if he was interacting with a drug lord.

The "dude" part is debatable, but the "I didn't do anything" part? Clearly he did do something or the officer wouldn't have been talking to him in the first place. If the kid would've just said, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you the first time, we won't skateboard here." then the whole thing probably would've been over. Instead the kid was acting the fool, and I'm willing to bet he knew the camera was running the whole time.

Well, they were skateboarding where they weren't supposed to be, that's hardly a federal crime and didn't need to go anywhere beyond, "Sorry fellas, you guys can't skate here." He didn't do anything to warrant the officer angrily stomping over there, getting in his face, or anything that followed. He didn't backtalk, he didn't "get defensive" other then to slightly tersely answer "Yea" the 700th time Officer Powertrip asked him if he could hear him, which was immediately followed up buy the officer talking about throwing him in freakin' Juvenile Hall.

Ok, so the reporter said he was Quadriplegic... yet he drives, wheels his own chair, and does other things with his hands... doesn't that mean... oh nevermind, thought I knew something for a moment.

Also, as far as "I didn't do anything"- they may have been skating in a no skating zone. That's all I could tell from the cop's "argument."
I don't like dumbass kids, but from what I could see they deserved about none of it. Maybe a little bit of "Hey- you kids there. There's no skating here." and escalating as needed, but they were pretty compliant.

I made a comment about being "Quadriplegic" but still having the use of hands and arms- I must have been wrong. Can someone define the difference between quadri and paraplegic please?

Quadriplegic: Quadriplegia, also known as tetraplegia, is a symptom in which a human experiences paralysis of all four limbs, although not necessarily total paralysis.
Also for Quadiplegia: normally means a loss of sensation and movement in all four limbs and the trunk. This generally results from a spinal cord injury to the neck. However, the loss of sensation and movement may not be complete with some sensation and movement being retained in parts of the arms and legs
Paraplegic: suffering complete paralysis of the lower half of the body usually resulting from damage to the spinal cord

As far as I can tell: It starts off with a different kid saying "I tried to tell him, but he had his earphones in." At which point the officer starts talking to the "star" of the video, though it isn't clear which one he's talking to, so he takes the non response as "attitude."
The only thing that could be construed as outright "sass" was the kid's "I don't have a father" remark, which for all we know, could be true. (Note he doesn't say "I'm calling my parents/dad" after the officer tackles him Nick Barnett style, then pushes him down again after he tries getting up.)
The bottom line is the kids posed no threat, they didn't disobey, or even really disrespect him, and even if the officer's 9th rendition of "Can you hear me now?" was responded to with "No, but your mother was awfully quiet in bed last night, maybe it runs in the family" the situation wouldn't have called for what transpired.

From the article: "Rivieri was suspended until an internal investigation is complete".
I think this is pretty standard in these situations. You get suspended with pay, they investigate and then you get cleared/fired/suspended without pay/etc. If they do it any other way, then the dept. is just opening itself up for trouble with the union/lawsuits.
