Nutcan Softball 2008
Nutcan softball starts tonight. 7pm field 8. Like every year we're going to go into the season deluding ourselves into thinking we're going to keep yearlong stats.Wish us luck. We're already down a guy for the first game or two and Packone seems to be allergic to checking his email.

Actually, we should, theoretically, be able to have 10 as there should be more than enough girls coming and you can play with as many girls as you want. (You have to have a girl in the lineup for every guy, but not vise versa)
And thus the 10-0 regular season begins.
Redlight!!

We'll try and get more notice for next week.
I can't remember how we managed to find a glove for the person who needed one for a game last year, but it was orders of magnitude harder to find one then I thought it would've been. I don't know what the deal was. It would have been easier to find a donor heart on 2-3 hours notice than it was to track down that extra glove.
At any rate for some reason it looks like the offices close at 5 as far as getting on the roster to begin with, and we'd like to play at least one game with an official roster. Not that we ever have, or would consider, playing with a non-rostered player.
Don't the people that run these leagues know everyone does everything last minute, and last minute things come up even if you don't mean them to? Seems like there should be some semi-official way to join a roster, at the field, right before game time. At least then they'd know who was playing, which is all they really care about. It terms of "ringers" there's really nothing to stop you from adding Joe Mauer and Ryan Braun to your team, save for a $10 out-of-towner fee and a 3 minute trip to get on the roster, so I don't really get the point in that regard.

Jon says if PackOne wants to play, since we have more than enough girls, he can bat and not play the field otherwise we'll be batting 3 girls in a row. Also, he might be able to use one of the girls' gloves who would have to sit.

Well we lost 7-5.
I don't know how well official stats were kept, but I was 3-3 With a single and 2 triples (triples, in that I ended up at third) I also had 5 RBIs, I think, which you sabermatricians will note was the entirety of the runs.
I just want to make special note of that so when I go 3-24 the rest of the year I can look back on this fondly.

I was going to make the "no-girl" joke but apparently TWO people beat me to it.
Plus, fyi scott, I wasn't going to be the one not playing the field. That would have been PackOne. I have a glove.

... besides, you'd have no RBI if the people before you couldn't get themselves on base first.... seriously

Well, first off it was just a statement of fact we wanted to start tracking stats and I remembered mine, I didn't get into my heroic slides and dizzying outfield prowess.
Actually not only would I not have had RBIs but I wouldn't have ended up with anything more then 3 singles if the others (Usually Matt and a different Sarah) weren't on base already because I advanced on the series of overthrows and whatnot trying to get them out.

I'll get a glove, if I actually get to play. Sounds like you need a guy who batted over .800 last year, made some spectacular grabs, and as we all know can take a walk if needed.

My last softball team was one that the VFW sponsored for my Reserve group. We lost because the majority of our players came to drink all of our beer, then pulled some BS crap in the outfield (like sitting down).

As Jon said the final score was 8-5. Also, looking at the scorebook, I think you only had 4 RBI, since it had you scoring a run after the first of your "triples". I believe Jon ended up knocking you in (although it could have been Sarah - if either of you remember one way or the other, speak up).

I used what was written down in the scorebook, so I could figure stuff out for everyone. The only problem is that we didn't always record the "details" like if an out was a strikeout, or if a time on base was because of a force out (although I don't think either happened much in the game).

If Sarah's ok with me posting her stats, I can post them as well. Same thing goes with PackOne if/when he plays. Jon and I were talking, though, and I'm kind of wary of posting the other players stats, as it's not really expected when you sign up that your playing ability will be posted on a website for strangers to look at. This is probably being too sensitive, but you never know what people will get mad about.

Jeremy - I hate our freedoms
05/22/2008 @ 01:45:45 PM
Well, post Sarah's. It will be the closest thing to her adding content to the site in 3 years.
I don't think we have to post everyone's, but we could possibly have them on hand (like back fill details we remember now that we wont in a month) incase they ask. If they don't visit the site there's not much of a reason to post their stats.
Also, since we're tracking stats, I think we need to institute Micah's "suck point" rule. They are self accredited points for when you screw up big time.
To clarify the suck point rule: it's not for when you bobble the ball for half a second that potentially cost you getting someone at first, or made a routine the-ball-was-thrown-over-someone's-head by 6 inches play. Suck points are for situations, hypothetically speaking, when you could easily get at least one out at any base, and possibly get two, and instead you try to tag the runner going to third, whiff, then inexplicably drop the ball in a mini panic-fit, getting no outs.

I'll be sure to bring the fashion police.
No need to get their that early, we try to be there 20 minutes before, last week Sarah and I were and were alone for 5 and most of the team didn't show until like 10 minutes before.

Since, I am assuming stats will be posted at a later date, I would like to thank nutcan for asking me to play. It was fun. For some reason I am shocked that everyone was so quiet. I expected you guys to be loud and boisterous. Also, Sarah looks nothing like her picture. Jon really doesn't either. For that matter, neither do I.

Sarah's picture is like 8 years old.
Just in case you're thinking this was a one and done thing we want you to play every week. I'm not sure if you thought it was tonight only or not.

Well, it took me awhile trying to sort out the stats since things were moving fast during our 8 run 3rd inning, and not everything got noted. I think I figured things out, but may be off here and there (giving a single when it should have been a double, missing an RBI, etc.). If you think something is wrong, let me know.

Per Sarah's Dad
I worked up pricing about shirts. We use a nice mostly cotton tee that comes in a lot of different colors. If you guys can give me an .ai or .eps file (Adobe Illustrator or Extended Postscript) design, then we don't have to charge much, if anything, for artwork. We also have a book of clipart that may be useful. Or, maybe you want just text for the front?
If we do a one color print on the front of standard size (S-XL) colored tee shirts, cost is 8.60 per shirt. If it is a two color design, cost is 13. 65 per, + tax. The cost for printing the names and numbers on the back of each shirt adds 8.00 to each. If we can go to heat transfer numbers and names, subtract 4.00 from the add-on. Names are tough to do with heat transfer, because each letter has to be hand set. So, if we could just do numbers on the back, that would be great. Heat transfer character colors are only in black or white. White tees are cheapest (7.55), followed by gray shades (heather)(8.15), then color.
Personally I'm thinking gray with maroon text. Anyone have illustrator who wants to whip-up a one color something?

Also, Micah has CS2 or 3, I think.

I think I'd like name and number, but those don't have to be an all or nothing thing, as was my original understanding, maybe we can clarify that.

Well, it was always the plan. It's just that we flat out stated a couple times early on we needed another guy for the first couple weeks, then only implied after week 1 we wanted him as a full timer. Based on his "farewell" at the field and his post above I sort of got the impression he wasn't aware that we decided to bring another guy aboard full time, even for when we have more than 10 players.

As far as the shirts go, name and number is cool. I think a simple nutcan.com traditional logo would be cool stacked like it is on the site. I want mine to say Alex not PackOne. XL. #3. My two cents.

Anyone have any spec designs yet?
I was thinking it might be cool to make them not necessarily softball specific and have a couple extra to have a little merchandise area.

I hope so. It should be most of the same people I would imagine. I am so much happier on this team, despite the pay cut. You guys can add and do simple subtraction.
I will be trying out Jott tonight, a voice service that updates to Facebook and Twitter, between inning highlights to the world baby.

Sloppy game, but a win for Nutcan 18-10 (I think). I'll post the stats later tonight or tomorrow.
Also, PackOne, I hope your leg is alright and that you can be back in the lineup next week.

I seriously thought that I was super hurt. I have never really had a sports related injury, through football, wrestling, pole vaulting, cross-country, or golf. When I took off from the base my quad just competely gave out and hurt bad, really bad. Then, the next day it was pretty kosher. So now, I have my first real sports related injury. Sweet.
