![]() | Colts 18 @ Vikings 15 | ![]() |
![]() | JeremyThe Colts, and Peyton Manning in particular, looked off last week. Hopefully they didn't make any improvements. Second week in a row with a big name pass rusher going against a second stringer because some jackass can't stop getting into fights at bars. Thanks McKinnie! |
![]() | MattHopefully it takes Manning at least one more week to shake the rust off. |
![]() | SarahI think the Colts will turn it around. Wouldn't it be great if the Patriots and Colts were horrible this year? Let's change it up a little! |
![]() | JonJared Allen is a bust! I know, because I watched one game. You know, this actually could be the easiest game the Vikings play in the next month or so. |
![]() | Steelers 10 @ Browns 6 | ![]() |
![]() | JeremyThe Browns look pretty bad last week. They're the sheik "up and comer" pick this year, but they have "one year wonder" written all over them. |
![]() | MattThe Steelers looked good last week, though to have success this season they are going to have to throw the ball more to Santonio Holmes. |
![]() | SarahBrady Quinn? |
![]() | JonBrady Quinn starts by week 12.Or not. I don't really care. |
![]() | Eagles 37 @ Cowboys 41 | ![]() |
![]() | JeremyThe Cowboys could do no wrong last week, though the Browns aren't know for their defense. The Eagles apparently could do no wrong last week, but the Rams apparently resorted to filling their roster by pulling old ladies from the stands. |
![]() | MattI think I'll watch this one with the sound muted. |
![]() | SarahThe Cowboys looked pretty good last week. They can still suck it though. |
![]() | JonESPN needs to make a channel devoted entirely to non-stories about the Cowboys, Tony Romo, and T.O. That way, they can free up about 50% of their football time to report actual stories about the rest of the teams in the league. |

Well, the Jets played them pretty close the second time around last year without Favre and with Brady. I don't think the Patriots are going to be a 3 win team now or anything, I just think it will take them more than a week to recover.

What's up nutcan? Sorry haven't been around lately. Hope things are good with everyone. School, work, and life is keeping me busy. Also having a story published in the Badger vs Ohio State game program here in a few weeks, so pretty pumped. My fantasy team sucks for nutcan, the Crew better hold on, the Vikes still suck, and nutcan softball is only like 10 months away.
I miss you guys. Sniff.

This is a developing story but it appears the Baltimore vs. Houston game won't be able to be played at the stadium in Houston this weekend, even on Monday.
As of now, it sounds like they're not sure when or where to play it.
The info from this link will probably change but here it is anyway.

Apparently Vince Young is going through a personal crisis of some sort that had him mentioning the word "suicide" to his therapist several times before going MIA, which lead to a Titans/police search for him.

I'll assume you took the time to look it up and thus your jab is that this isn't exactly breaking news. I just read about it now, and it's the second link on ESPN where they generally list the "new" stories, so I assumed it wasn't that old. When I went to get another Mountain Dew just after posting that I told Sarah about it, and apparently this was in the news yesterday.
Whatever, I was shoveling rock all night last night. I hate nutcan and I hate all of you. I'm never coming back! Never!

I actually wasn't making a jab at you.
I thought you were making fun of me by reporting an "old" story, as if the story I just mentioned was "old" or something. Especially since you made fun of someone else for reporting old news earlier this week.
So I was actually kind of asking if you were kidding or not, because I was pretty sure the thing I linked to was fairly new.

Well if you look, the Texans- Ravens game has been removed from the pick list so you all don't have to worry. Kind of sucks for the Texans and Ravens who will pretty much lose their bye week because of this hurricane. And in an unrelated baseball note, the Houston Astros are going to be playing "home" games in Milwaukee against the Cubs, how is that fair? We all know that Cubs fans refer to Miller Park as "Wrigley Field north".

Actually, what probably happened last year was that you didn't notice my comments because I usually wait til the last minute to make my picks and write my comments. The readers have suggested that I go last, much like at a concert where you suffer through the first acts to get to the main show.

Normally I would consider attending to give the Astros some support, but at this point the Brewers really need to play for the wild card so go Cubs!
Token football reference, pretty good national TV lineup this week, I actually want to see all these games.

Yeah, Matt and I were talking about this phenomenon. Because at first, it seemed like it was too big a Cubs advantage, then I thought well maybe the brewers' fans will cheer against the Cubs, but then Matt reminded me how the Astros are actually more competition to the Brewers right now.
You should support fairness and go and cheer for the Astros anyway. It's a home game for them.

Yeah, I wondered that too. Plus, do you think the Miller Park people are going for some kind of record or something? Most different home teams in one season? I wonder if this would be the record.
Since this is a football page I suppose I need to say something about football. Remember when the Packers used to play at County Stadium? You know, if they played at Miller Park, that would be another home team. But in a different way.

Can I take back my Colts pick? I've only seen 2 plays and they've been awful. Plus, Peyton looks pretty pissed on the sidelines. I think their reign is over.

Do the Lions WR's need super glue on their hands? 3 dropped passes so far. Turrible, but no complaints from me.

I'm wearing my Packers hat with my Colts hat only an arm's length away.
I can watch the Colts game, but the Packer's are on Z100's streaming audio.

Thoughts on the Packers-Lions game:
Aaron Rodgers could do no wrong. The first half was as good of half of first half a qb could have. He was hitting every receiver right in the hands. We see in Rodgers something that we haven't had in a qb, legitimate mobility. Favre was definitly elusive, but Rodgers is mobile and has the ability to pick up a first down with his legs. Rodgers' stats looked pretty bad in the 2nd half, but I still could find no fault in his play. I counted at least 4 dropped passes by Packer receivers (one by Jennings, Driver, Jones, and Jackson). So far this season, I have no complaints about Rodgers, and more than that, I am actually pleased with his play. For the season, 4 TDs, 0 ints.

I think I'll just not go and watch football and the Brewers on TV. I wonder how ticket sales/payment works out for playing in someone else's stadium.
When the Indians and Angels played at Miller Park last year, I think the Brewers split the revenue with the Indians, because it was technically a home game for them.

I just saw the highlights of the Chargers-Broncos game. What urks me about that fumble/incomplete by Cutler is this: regardless of the motion of his arm, the ball went backwards. It wasn't an issue where a defender hit his arm or anything, the ball just flat out when backwards. That to me is a lateral, and in this case, a fumble.
Edit: Ed Hochuli admitted apparently that he got the call wrong. Because the play was blown dead originally as an incomplete, it could not be ruled a fumble. But he admitted that it should have been ruled a fumble, so my urk is justified.

It was ruled a fumble.
Basically they ruled that because of the inadvertent whistle the ball was down where it hit the ground, which is the correct call, they just blew it (literally) before then.
I don't think the refs have to do the whole "let it all play out, assume fumble, and if they get it wrong, wait for a challenge" that they do once in a while, but I do wish they would let things play out, then come to a consensus.

Read the lead blurb on this weeks Winners and Losers:

Then read (under LOSERS) about the Vikings.
-note: the author has his time mixed up- the Packers were finished with the Lions before Brett "struggled with the Patriots"

"The Minnesota Vikings
Leading 15-0 and with a perfect opportunity to bounce back after a tough opening loss to Green Bay, Minnesota went into the tank, going into an offensive shell and giving up 18 points in the final 17 minutes against Indianapolis. What’s the point of having Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback if you don’t design an offense that occasionally makes use of his scrambling ability? Jackson’s one rushing attempt for one yard was absurd."
It was definitely absurd. They ran him on a naked bootleg with all other 10 guys going the other way. So he was all alone, with no one to dump it off to, or at least hold the d off, and it took so long to play out and was so obvious that about 6 defenders were waiting for him at the line of scrimmage.
It's hard to say if T-Jack is failing or if Childress' system is. The Vikings hard the perfect QB for a high accuracy "dink and dunk" system in Brad Johnson and he failed miserably, as has every other QB. Here's the thing about the Brad Childress Vikings. They're out "normalling" everyone. Their run defense is like running into a wall. The offense moves the ball very easily between the 20s. The problem is that sooner or later the opponent is going to sneak something big past you. Despite what you read about them, the Colts were AWFUL yesterday. They couldn't get a first down to save their lives for a vast vast majority of the game. However, big plays are almost assuredly going to happen no matter how good your defense is. The problem with the Vikings is they don't score enough to overcome the inevitable big plays, and they don't have enough big plays to consistently counteract them. Teams don't seem to "drive" the ball against the Vikings they go 3 and out, or get a couple first downs, and either punt, or break one to the 3 yard line. The Vikings seem to be able to "drive" on anyone. They just have nothing for when you need something special, seem to call the most low percentage plays when the most is on the line, and line up in the dumbest formations possible. It's 3rd and 2, you have the best running game in the league, so it's a questionable decision to pass at all, but time and time again not only do the Vikings pass there, they line up empty backfield. Everyone on the field would be targeting the runningback in that position, so maybe you sneak a pass behind them. (Not to mention talk about the perfect time to go play action) Nope. 4 wide. Also, why bother to just try and get the 2 you need to keep going, you've had the whole game to try for a quick strike, but let's throw a 70 yard fly pattern now.
As for Alex's comment: It will take a while. First off no one knows how good teams are. The Vikings are a season away from being one of the worst pass D's and the Lions are the Lions. Many QB's start strong, then get "figured out" at some point. Hell, some have brilliant first entire seasons, then get figured out and struggle.

I'm still not convinced. It bothers me that everyone has decided to crown Mr. Rodgers king. 1 game, and it wasn't even that great! The Lions looked pretty pitiful last week.Jon
Rodgers is great! We know this because we saw him start one game. This seems like a sure win for the Packers, and they probably will win. But remember that this is start number two for Rodgers and it's on the road.
